i, like others have map and compass and no idea how to use it.during spring would some experianced ni wilders consider an overnight camp to show us novices the basics.i  know its a bit cheeky to ask but it could lead to a big springtime ni wild wildcamp and there are now quite  a few new novice members looking for a first wild camp

Hi

I ilke your idea.I have zero experience with camping ( soon to be rectified ) whereas I have a good grounding in navigation although no expert. Can I just say that although there is no better than getting out in the hills and practising/learning hands-on,you tube is a great resource especially some of the people who post podcasts on navigation as part of their outdoor pursuits diploma modules

Happy to show what I know. Don't do pacings or timing yet, but can both not get lost and find where I am.
Just am not often free. Working all the next few weekends. If I'm able to get away for a wee overnighter, we could do some night nav to a camp (easier to learn to trust the compass when you can't see anything else to distract and doubt you) and then day nav next day.

I think we should get a navigation day or something organised. For people to learn and to brush up old skills.

I understand we will need to plan a month or two in advance, so people can free up time or what not, or even just wait until the days get a little longer.

I'd be happy with that. Dates to suit everyone is NI Wilds kryptonite, so I'd imagine that would be the only obstacle.

love your honesty  ;)

You would be amazed how many cannot read a map, bearings etc.........some call it lost, I call it 'exploring'
