The country is Sao Tome et Principe (I told you most people hadn't heard of it) The auther is Frederick Forsyth who wrote most of "The Dogs of War" on Sao Tome.

Close but no, it was outside there linen factory in sandy row with the goal posts hard against the factory walls and it was called the ?????  Its where the name Linfield comes from
