very tempted to join you but i have a christmas do in newcastle tonight and walking up there after a few pints just doesn't seem sensible, especially as its the rescue teams christmas do so please be very very good and don't call them out, no matter how much your broken leg hurts  :)

i decided to pop up to meelmore lodge and walk the lads up part of the way so i could burn off some calories for the impending christmas dinner

here's george getting a wee pic of the snowy slopes

matt and dave were running late so we didn't set off til after dark, usual excuse, mcdonalds  ;D
(see matts super light pack on the right, he'll be wishing he packed a few extra jumpers, its freezing up there tonight  :o )

dave at the stile, notice a few flakes of snow in the air

nearly at hares gap, using the 60 second exposure again

walking back down i took a wee snap of spellack

hope they're warm enough up there, was a lovely clear starry night when i left

All (Matt, Dave and me) back of the mountain safe and well.

Was a bit like "Celebrity Dancing on Ice" at times on the return journey.

Fuller write up and photos later.

Liam, thanks for your company.  How'd the dinner go?

25/12/11; I've just remembered I'd a few photos to upload.  Never seem to be able to paste the photos directly into a thread hence the need to use the link to imageshack:-

Another great night in hills, what sport! After we bid fare well to Liam just before Hares Gap we pushed on up for a moments break before heading down to the shelter stone, navigation was a bit lapse and we were soon about 20M higher than we should have been according to the GPS route I had quickly plotted before leaving the house. we had initially followed a path which just finished so we were forced to continue along, we thought that a general "towards the river" approach would have us sorted and after a half hour walk we were getting the tents up and it began to look like a sales room for Terra Nova.

It soon started to get cold and we all wrapped up warm and continued to chew the fat for a few more hours with a wee tipple of red wine and a few mince pies courtesy of George.

This was the first time I had taken the essentials into the hills but to my surprise, the night was by no means intolerable.

Looks like a top night out, am gutted I missed it. I'd be interested in what gear everyone had to keep warm, I'm reviewing my cold weather gear at the mo.

Did anyone bring a fire log?

Alrite Matt / Dave,

How long do you think it took you to walk from the hares gap to the shelter stone? When we had the night of the midges i remember it taking about 20 minutes.
Reason im asking is that whorya and myself are planing a wee trip in a couple of weeks for the guys we did the 4 peaks with, theyve heard us telling our tales and want a piece of the action, quite a few of them have gear and dated as it is it still works and theyve all decent levels of fitness or we wouldnt be taking them.
They have suggested camping at the hares gap, we have four tents to pitch and im sure we could get the space for them up there somewhere, though i feel they would have a more enjoyable night at the shelter stone, its downhill from the saddle, fresh water for cooking and plenty of space for the tents. its weather permitting of course, as if its chucking it down itl be donard wood.
