Should I buy the Alpkit Hunka bivvy?
« on: November 17, 2011 »

Hi all,

I know Cerebra147 has asked a similar question earlier this month, but still need some more guidance/direction..........

I'm determined to get some bivvying in over the winter months, as I haven't got to camp out anywhere near as much this year as I wanted. Bivvying would give me more opportunities than setting up (and carrying!!) the tent.

Saw the Alpkit Hunka on the web and they're selling for £30 (doesn't seem too bad?)

I have a Hi Gear Snooza 400 mummy type sleeping bag, which has served me well (when used with a tent and once, with just a groundhseet and an overhead tarp on a cold overnighter on Salt Island!).
Just wondering if this type/brand of bivvy bag is a good bit of kit and worth buying.
Weight is of importance, as the less I have to carry the better!
Don't know if this bivvy/sleeping bag set up is going to work or not - fairly new to the outdoors

Can anyone help?

I use a goretex bivi even in a tent. Keeps the bag dry from the dog.

I have to say i like the hooped end bivi. Give that bit more space around the head.

I have a Hunka and it's definitely a good bit of gear, doubly so considering how cheap it is! The only issue it has is it's quite tight but this is intentional  - it's the perfect size for the Alpkit Pipedream sleeping bags so helps keep you warm.

They are a great bit ok kit BUY BUY BUY. If you are getting one get the XL one as it is a bit more roomy.

Thanks to all for the guidance.

Went ahead with the XL version.
Thought that the extra leg room would be come in handy.

Looking forward to trying it out soon........

madness, i,ll never sleep on the ground again!

i can see your point though from a price perspective, but you simply cannot beat a tarp and hammock for a comfortable night.

tenth wonder also do a hammock with a waterproof layer that can be set up like a tent if theres no trees about.
