Had to finally retire my hiking boots today

we have had many months of comfort and good times together, we have crossed many hills and met many a good person and I am sad at their passing. I finally realized they had lost their grip on reality when they lost traction on a metal none slip surface at funderland on Saturday passed, leaving me with a graze on my elbow and an area which is sore to the touch on top of my right buttock. I haven't examined this area in a mirror yet for fear of what I ill find. The kids and their friends found this funny as did the young fella who was in charge of the crazy jumper ride that I bravely got on in the first place, he helped me up stifling a smile asked if I as ok and took me by the arm and led me to the handrail, I wanted to protest and say ( but mate I go hiking over mountains and stuff) but I knew this would just add to the hilarity of the situation. I have never felt so old. well my new boots are on my feet and very comfortable they are but I haven't grown attached to them yet but that will hopefully come in time, my old ones, God love them, are sitting in the corner looking at me as I type this . They are ragged and forlorn looking like an old dog that has served you faithfully with eyes stretched and tongues hanging out and we both know its the end...... what to do, A vikings funeral comes to mind, a small fire, a few drinks, thoughts of what we have accomplished together, a tear shed, the passing of old friends is never easy.

if they're like my old boots they'll be too damp to burn

so what young spritely model have you replaced them with? is your wife getting worried that if you can replace your old faithful boots then maybe she's next

nothing fancy, a pair of Regatta X-LT, the cheap ones serve me as well as the Expensive ones, same goes for wives

its interesting you're saying this.. Ive been thinking for the last couple of weeks about putting the subject of new boots to the forum. I invested in a new pair of boots last spring (before i joined the forum) my last ones owed me nothing and cost £60. After consulting some 'ppl that know' i invested (i use the term strongly) in a pair of Meindl boots.. I have to say each time i wear them im slightly more underwhelmed with them than the last time

they felt grand in the shop, but now, there seems to be too much room in the top of the boot, the arch is uncomfortable.. and my feet even after doing a small walk hurt. I'm even using my boots around the house to see if they will grow to love me.. but alas.. its not to be.. they (cant use bad language here ) hate me..! and i hate them

! I also blame them for a groin and hamstring strain, as there is no 'give' in the sole. Aw well, its all down to experience..

Must say i gave as much thought to this as sending Landy Laim a new excercise that would not damage his neck doing sit ups...

My last pair cost me 30 quid hi tec 50 peak , although one eyelet came out, it wasn't the end of the world, they served me well, I'm very skeptical about all these fancy name brands , If it works it works that's i how i see it.

the ones you have look like my last ones, and i loved them. These ones i have are really hard something like this http://www.meindl.co.uk/products/Walking_and_Hiking/Mens_Boots/11/Burma_Pro_MFS ive tried so many things in them, im onto memory foam insoles at the moment, and they dont stop my feet burning either
