Weekend Getaway
« on: October 10, 2011 »

Was thinking of a weekend getaway at the end of the month.  Fancy somewhere like Connemara and was wondering if anyone had any good suggestions for guest houses or B&B's there?  Any other ideas (that don't involve camping for a change!) would be very welcome :)

Sometimes you just need a bit of luxury... and I don't mean bringing a firelog on a summit bivvy ;)

Assuming you are talking a long weekend then Doolin, Co. Clare could be your spot.  Cliffs of Moher, Aran Islands and The Burren, the some of best traditional music music on the island, you could do a lot worse.  The place is buzzing with people and there is a great choice of accomodation.  I stayed in a youth hostel when I was there.

Good idea, the Cliffs of Moher have been on my "to-do" list for a while now!  Will look into that.  What was the name of the hostel you stayed in?

I don't recall off-hand but the Doolin Hostel one on the accomodation section on that link I inserted looks like it...it was a while ago.  I see lots of the hostels offer double en-suite rooms.

Inishmore, the largest of the Arran Islands is the actual Craggy Island and hosts an annual TedFest.  There are much simpler pleasures to be found in cycling round the island and visiting the Dun Aengus fort.

That is only my experience of the area, I'm sure there are lots of other things to do.

Aille River Hostel is great. Very friendly, comfortable and big roaring fire. I think they do private double rooms too.

I stayed in a old coast guard place on the Skye Road in Clifton. Close to National park - 12 Bens etc.
