I feel very priviledged...I've just noticed on my google search page that I've got a You+ button and it led me to Google+, the much anticipated rival to Facebook. I tried to get in a couple of months ago but it was invite only. Is anyone else gonna sign up to this?

I have it but haven't doodled with it yet. I know a lot of people are raving about the Circles system.

I can invite people to Google plus, if you want an invite let me know. Although, like I say, I'm don't actively use it.

I read on the news that it went global yesterday. I don't think you need to be invited any more. I'd been trying for months to get in! Anyway now that I am it's virtually the same as Facebook, but maybe better. It's got a Follow function a bit like Twitter. What I didn't like was that it got a hold of 91 photographs on my computer with a default setting of Public, which I then had to figure out how to lock down so I could decide for myself which ones I don't mind being on there.

With no friends on it right now it's a bit boring, my news feed is full of news from who I am following, but not personal friends. I think Facebook should be worried but at the end if the day they've got an established brand. What will probably happen is Facebook takes on all the good functions from Google (well they already are!)

I never even heard of it until I read your post so I might go have a looksee at it , I threw the head up a few months ago  and deleted Facebook , twitter and a few other forums even considered this one but chickened out as I felt I was spending too much time in a virtual world and not enough in the real world , I've kept this site and one other as the only ones I visit regulary. I try now to be more constructive with my free time especially when bored in work , I've went oldskool as I now read a thing called a book  :o

I have to say I love reading but you're right, t'internet can take over. I've just limited my two sons to two hours gaming a night, because the previous rule was homework first, but free reign on the Xbox after that. Then I find they're too knackered for school and also I have to listen to the moaning if I want them do help me with something, or go for a simple walk or whatever. So I've put my foot down, 2 hours after tea, with homeworks already done and bags packed for the following morning. They hate my guts.

I'm a bit of an ipod addict, it's permanently in my hand even when I watch TV. I go to bed but for another 10 minutes I'm still refreshing my emails, and I wake up and even before I get out of bed I've facebooked, emailed and checked a couple of forums. It's sad I know.

I doubt I'm the only one though. I drew the line when I heard of a social networking app called Ipoo. It's a social network for people who are bored sitting on the loo and contact each other when they 'go'.

Down with facebook, google+, twitter and associated nonsense!

Socialising is bad enough in real life, let alone spoiling computers with it too.

Everybody get a book!

Everything in moderation! It's a great way to stay in touch with people that don't live close enough to see regularly.

Bravo.

But no, no Google+. . . Facebook has enough information, Google+ can gather ALL of your internet usage, after all what do we use to search for things?

Facebook does the same; they all do!

I have a Facebook and Google+ but don't use either. I do use Linkedin though; the grown up's Facebook as I call it  ;D

I do think Google+ could rival Facebook but most people are too lazy / stuck in their ways to move their entire life over. I remember when it was all about Myspace and for search engines it was Altavista [old school reference]. Those were the days when Apple were known for computers not phones and music players :)

Things change  ;)

BTW I recently got a Kindle; great bit of kit :)

Not that that I mind. Its the fact google will sell these details to third parties.

They have too much power already, I'm not keen on giving them ALL my details.

I feel pretty much the same, however Facebook can do the same thing but to a lesser extent. They can see every page you visit that uses the FB API (ie, has a like button or suchlike).
