Bear is a legend, Uncle Ray is an overweight boy scout but still very good at what he does.

I don't think I've ever watched a full Ray Mears  :-\

He clearly knows his bushcraft but for entertainment value it has to be Bear  ;D

Comparing the two just isn't fair and by arguing it out on a forum makes everyone looks silly. It's like the Leatherman / Gerber or Victorinox / Wenger 'debates'. Nothing good comes from it; just be glad we get to choose :)

We love sitting down to watch Bear to see what he'll eat next. You would be foolish to think that it was literally him and a cameraman. I watched the Behind The Scenes episode. He has an ex Marine as his Rope Expert and another ex military as the overall Crew leader. Some of his stunts are really silly like back flipping into a pool of water or venturing down an abandoned mine. I'll not even talk about putting a tube up your bum  :o

I've got all the Bear stuff on Sky+; I must watch his new one tonight ;D

I'm really fighting the urge to get the new Gerber / Bear Survival knife. Most of the reviews say it is a pile of poop and something Bear would never use but I'm still tempted  :o Only $30 in the US; flippin £65 here  >:(

See I'm tempted by the Ultimate Knife as well, although walking about the Mournes with a fixed blade does raise an eye brow or two.

President I think isn't he or something like that.  For me however some of the best television I have watched in years has been between The Bear and Uncle Ray.  If it was up to me they would be on more than Eastenders.

I think if anywhere that shouldn't be out of the ordinary but compulsory ;D

I really like his original Bayley S4 knife but then prices for it begin at £400+; that's if you can get one  :o

Watched Monday's episode on a desert island ;D [I wasn't on the desert island, he was  :D]

First time I've seen him using a Gerber knife. It wasn't the Bear Grylls orange & black one. Think it is the Gerber LMF II which the Bear Grylls one is modelled on.

I have just finished reading bears autobiography. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it has given me a much changed perspective about the man. I also met and got a lift from one of his close friends and school chum who was also involved in the Atlantic crossing. He was described to me as the guy who was always helping everyone else, if you were in trouble bear was always the one who came to help out no matter what it cost him. The incident with the hotel was blown out of proportion, his wife Shara and kids came to visit while he was filming an episode of man v wild and he went and spent the night with them at the hotel lodge they were staying in. The next day he was back out to staying in the muck and gutters. Who wouldn't have done the same. I have a lot of respect for the guy and it's obvious to see and the inside info confirms it his programmes are mainly for the dollar Market. Hopefully next time I'm in England I might get to meet the man himself.

Watched last Monday's episode last night. The one where he is in Scotland :)

Used a seal skin as a nice wetsuit jumper; looked like a weird tank top  :D

It's the first one where he uses his new Gerber Survival knife ;D
