I went up carrauntoohil in 1970's with 3 mates. Called at a local farm for permission to camp on his land and threw him a couple of punts to keep him sweet which it certainly did as we were invited by him and his wife to the biggest fry up I have ever seen. The only thing that sticks out in my mind was the fact that 4 of us were dressed like we were on an assault on North Face of Everest geared up to the gills.  Half way up we met a local farmer in his sunday bests, 3 piece suit, cap and brogues  and a large pipe on his way back down after collecting a few sheep near the top, sort of knocked the big adventure out of our heads and thought at how ridiculous we must have looked to the farmer. The views from the top were the best I have ever seen in all directions.
Does it still have the Log book to sign at the top????

In the words of Van "Wouldn't it be great if it was like this all the time?"

Are you able to elaborate using any of the pics to let the like of me know something of the route you followed i.e. did you follow that ridge?

the pics are back to front, (still getting the hang of this forum thing  ::) ) we came up the "hydro track" (last pic) very steep wee concrete road, we followed that up to the coomloughra glen (where the lake is) then bore right up to the spur coming off caher, then up caher (the one with 3 peaks, irelands 3rd highest, even its first peak is higher than I had been before!) then on round the ridge to the right (caher ridge), up to the top of the big one! The second pic shows beenkeeragh (irelands 2nd highest) with the beenkeeragh ridge to the left, the first pic is taken from near the top of carrauntoohil.
