Looking to buy a stove, have been using one that connects to the top of the gas and find it to be exceptionally unstable and it really frustrates me

. So... because of this I am looking to get one which pipes from the gas to the stove as it'll have a lower COG and shouldn't topple as much. can anyone make some suggestions.

Should add that I am very broke student so price will influence my decision I'm afraid. :'(

I have a Primus Gravity 2 which I really like. It's not the cheapest stove but the remote ones rarely are. I wouldn't discount the can top type stoves yet. I have a Vango Mini that cost £12 and it's blummin awesome. It can be unsteady in wind but I got a set of feet that really helps. I just tend to hold the pot ontop of it considering it's only ever for a short time.

As RedLeader said, I wouldn't rule out a can top stove just yet. Grab yourself a set of these and it will make a big difference. Unless of course you are using a really big pot with lots of water in it!

If you are definitely set on a remote gas stove and are on a tight budget I wouldn't look any further than the Vango remote stove that has already been linked to. If you can afford a bit more I would also consider stretching to the Primus Spider Express which looks like a tidy little unit and has a pre-heat tube which I don't think the Vango does.

on the bery odd occasion i've bothered to cook in the hills i like to build a little surround with rocks for my gas can, if i get the right rocks its like cooking on an Aga stove

cuts the wind out too.

thanks all for the info and opinions went for the vango folding option, it looks like a really tidy wee stove, very good price. the box that it comes in is pretty good burns well. next friday night will hopefully be the first outdoor use that it gets so will probably throw up a review after that.

How did you get on with the Vango folding one Hendy? I've been using a MSR Pocket Rocket for the last year, but it's a bit top heavy sometimes. Thinking about trying a remote one.

Long time no post. Exams suck and women are hard work are the things that I have discovered in the past like three months. The little vango stove is AWESOME, haven't actually done a litre boil time on it but the cook times i've been really happy with its light and being quite a clumsy fellow having a box to keep it in will hopefully preserve its life span. very happy with the purchase.
