Spring has sprung, whats the plan!
« on: March 21, 2011 »

Well, it's the first day of spring and hopefully we can look forward to 6 months of nice(ish!) weather.

What's everyone planning?

Personally, I have a hankering for a few beers round the campfire where there's no ice on the ground and maybe a few nice summit sunrises!

I got two new tents and a bivi bag (but don't tell Mrs. Drybag) over the winter months.  They all need tested!

I'm just looking forward to getting out and doing some walking in the Mournes, Kerry & Scotland.

I'm hoping to take part in as many mourne events as possible, 7 7s, MMM, mourne way marathon etc.

Also hope to try out my new bivvy bag some time soon.

Biggest thing planned for me is the 4 peaks in June.

Wrecked my knee last week playing football, so the stairs is about as much climbing as I think I'll get in the next few weeks.

Every time I get together with a friend we get a bit too into it and before you know it we have trips planned to the Mamturks, Galtees, Glover Highlander, Mourne 7 7s, Magillcuddy's Reeks, the Paps of Jura etc.  I'll probably not achieve much of that.

In the land of reality, I hope to try to get out at least once a month for a good long days' walking.  Mournes, Sperrins and Cuilcagh (down in Fermanagh) are on the list.

Also want to get a midweek walk done every week, somewhere within a max of 45 mins drive like Belfast Hills, Slieve Croob, Agnew's Hill, Slemish, and as far up into the Antrim Hills as I can manage e.g. Trostan, Tievebulliagh etc.

Always trying to think how I can carve out ways to get a little more time out, so may try to do some Friday night overnights, leaving after the GB run and back shortly after breakfast.  Ideally with 1 to 1+1/2 hours walking each side of the camp spot.

To be honest, one day out with a view would probably satisfy me with the last lot of trips I've had!

I havnt had a calm or frost free camp with u guys yet , its seems to have been either gale force winds or minus 10!!.So may ambition this year is a few less NI Wild and a few more NI Mild camps . the calm summit sunrise sounds good its on my list of things to do.
