Paramo Cascada Trousers
« on: January 09, 2011 »

I was wondering if any of you guys have these?  I bought a pair for work and thought they were great as I didn't have to reach for my over trouser when the rain started while photographing an Ulster Match.  Thing was, they weren't so good when I had to drive home in them and my seat was soaked. now i bring spare rousers and get changed at the car to travel home.

Just thinking, if wearing them on an overnighter, would they dry out in time for the next day?

Were they wet through - surely they're supposed to be waterproof?

No, just the outside of them was wt, but really wet, the softer material seems to hold onto the water a bit more, my legs were dry though.

Interesting. I haven't ever tried Paramo multi layer gear though I hear very good reviews. My thinking was that without overtrousers when they finally get too wet and leak (as all clothing has to eventually) they'd be a nightmare to dry. However, I know that the likes of Berghaus Status pants dry incredibly effectively whilst you wear them so maybe the Paramo ones do too.

Craig or Chris will be probably be able to give a definitive answer being industry insiders and all that!

I think a good overnight may jus be the best way to test them and a spare pair of trousers in the ruck just incase

The Cascada, like all Paramo, isn't waterproof like a hard shell.  It has a DWR on the surface for light rain, but the inner just pumps moisture out.  If it is heavy prolonged rain it can be overwhelmed, but it will dry itself out very quickly...even if that means pumping the water into your car-seat  :)

If pressure is put on the fabric then water will get through, so don't sit on wet ground (put a mat or bag under you).  It will dry out when you stand up though.  It also likes regular washing to maintain performance.

Generally a different concept, but 'warm and comfortable' is the consensus of most users.
