Hi to one and all, I have just stumbled across this site, it looks the business.

I have a duff shoulder and knee!! but I can pull ok while sitting so I reckon Kayaking is my thing. I have 2 No. old Kayaks, and I am interested in doing some fishing from one. So I was just looking at some stuff on t'internet when I came across this site. I have mucked about in boats since the early '60s. I did a fair bit of water skiing and windsurfing etc. in the 70s and 80s and I have a healthy respect for the sea.

There appears to be lots of kit about, like sit on plastic boats with rod holders etc. and 2ft 7in fishing rods!!

I was just intending to take my one man kayak and a wee wooden crab fishing jig with a few fethers and see if I could catch a mackerel or two. A plastic supermac bag between my knees to put them in if I caught any.

But first I need a roof rack.....

Thanks for the welcomes,
Life is a funny old thing, I was just looking at the Meelmore Lodge stuff and it got me pondering. I partly grew up next door to Meelmore Lodge, It was Tommy McSpaddens place then, and I spent many's a Saturday night in it with my folks. There was no electric in the valley at that stage and we ran on gen sets. At night I would go to bed with my oil lamp and I could hear all the other people in the valley go to bed as the putt putt of the gen sets all ran down and switched off. And all the lights twinkling across the valley would finally be extinguished.  Happy days. :)

Hi i just read your post i am new to the site as well and a bit of kayak fishing might be just up my street, my summer is fairly booked up but i will be in Culdaff 2nd week in August and then Annalong the 3rd week in august. i will have my kayak with me on both occasions, so if the locations and weather suit I would be happy to meet up. The more the merrier by the way.

With regards to a roof rack I use a bulldog soft rack not expensive and very secure, just remove it when you dont need it. I have had it for a couple of years now and can totally vouch for it. i would definately recomend the double rack for a large item like a canoe/kayak. you can pick them up at outdoor shops surf mountain for example and i am sure athers have them. Hope this hepls.

Cheers Tony.

Thanks for the reply Tony, unfortunately I had a bit of a mishap (described in another post on kayak fishing) so I have a few things to sort out before my next trip, not least of which is a key for my car!!! The car keys were attached to the boat during the capsize and by the time I got back to the car the remote button on the keys didn't work. Then during my efforts to sort that out I lost the blessed key. So I ended up in Charles Hursts today and had to order a new key, I haven't been able to take the car out since that day! Still, the new key is to be here by Tuesday and I could still find the original anytime. My knee is actually working a bit better since the long swim and I had a wee go on the cross trainer yesterday and I was able to function for two minutes with no pain. (the first time since my skiing accident). I will probably have another go at fishing in the sea with the kayak but I would like to make up a couple of pontoons using fenders strapped lengthwise to each side of the canoe to assist stability whilst fishing. Who knows! I might even make it back in one piece next time!  ;D
