Some members had a great time doing the 2009 Mourne Mountain Marathon. I'm vaguely tempted to give it a blast but wary if my fitness is up to scratch. So we're pondering taking a weekend and doing the Class D route from last years marathon just to see how it goes. I've included the waypoints from each day beneath to gauge how far / hard it is.

Basically you have a number of waypoints that you must pass and can take whatever route you fancy.

Who's in!

Day 1:

Day 2:

Seeing I fancy giving the MMM (Class D!) a go I suppose it would be worth while giving it a shot before hand.  Mind you, it could put me off entirely :D  Some times you are better not trying these things out till the day!

Fair point. I'm not going to have someone punch me in the nuts now so I know what to expect should it ever happen ;)

Yeah count me in. Just so you know the D and C class (for definite) points are in order its only the elite class (possibly B) that get to choose a route and then its only like the middle 6 or something.

But yeah its def worth a punt great atmosphere, good fun and you get a free t-shirt! what could be better.

So you have to do the points in order but choose the route between each?

Exactly , you need to go from 1 to 2 to to 3 etc but you can go over, around, under, above what ever takes your fancy. Bad nav is pretty much where the game is lost. I'll plot all my points on the map, take a bearing for each and mark that on the route card then shove the map in my bergan and not look at it again hence heading the right direction but bad route choice!

Possibly. We had pondered the weekend of 7/Aug too so we could see what suits best. I'm game to give it a blast.
