Tarp Tutorials
« on: April 30, 2010 »

Thought I'd start a thread where we could gather together any particularly good tarp tutorial videos or resources.

Need to find out more about the particular types of knots they talk about and then get some practice actually using those knots...

I found that the very good podcast from Backpackinglight.co.uk was very easy to watch and understand for various tarp configurations.

It can be viewed from the site, but I got a DVD copy of it when I bought the tarp from them.

A very good source - amongst the many - can be found at   http://tothewoods.net/HammockCamping.html. It shows a few more good variations around the theme of hammock/tarp set ups.

Looks complictated! For tying rope round a tree etc try using a bowline, easy to tie and easy to release or even a clove hitch would prob do the job.

the Siberian hitch or "Evenk" is a very simple knot. Coupled with a tension knot at the other end, it's a great way to put up a good tight ridge line. if some of you come along to a NIBA event sometime, I'll be happy to show you.

As Celt says, it really is a very easy and quick knot to tie once you get to know it.

You can see a very excellent tutorial from the sister site Bushcraftliving. I've posted the link for you.

Happy tyeing.
