Vango Compact Gas Stove
« on: March 19, 2010 »

The Vango Compact Gas Stove is only £12 instore at Tiso at the moment. It weights under 100g and comes in a plastic carry case (that can go straight in the bin - far too heavy!)

I had been considering a Pocket Rocket and this is 1/3 the price. Will give it a spin at the weekend and report back.

Interesting!  Looking forward to hearing what you think of it, I've been toying with the idea of a gas stove and at £12 it would be hard to say no.  A wee mesh stuff sack would replace that plastic case nicely as well.

I tried this at the weekend alongside a Pocket Rocket and there seems little difference. Only time will tell if it is as ronbust as the PR but at £12 it seems like a bargain. It's well worth getting some feet for your gas cannister (for either stove) as they tend to be unsteady with a full pot on.

Personally, had I thought more I'd have bought the Vango remote gas stove. It's only £8 and 103g more (210g) but obviously much more stable.

Think I might get one of these as well.  Have been thinking of getting a gas stove to play around with and this would certainly keep costs down.  Mind you, now I dont know whether to go for the remote stove or not :-\

Remote stove = heavier but more stable. Gas heads on the top of small gas cans are unstable in wind. I think the extra 100g is worth it for the safety aspect. Plus, it looks like the actual flame part of the remote version is bigger which might spread the heat more.
