Cooking Set
« on: February 03, 2010 »

I have been looking about for a cooking set to tie in with my pocket rocket stove.  The MSR Titanium was too dear so I went for the Optimus Terra Weekender priced at £25:-

In true boys and there toys style, I had a blast with it in the kitchen using the Stove, The pot boiled water and was stable on the stove but the tiny frying pan was rubbish, It was easily tipped over and it wouldnt even hold a good old denny sausage.  I fried an egg in it and the bottom of it became warped after a single use.

Maybe I am expecting too much from it?

Looks a neat set.

I would have thought it was fit for purpose, did you have the gas turned down when frying the egg ?  :D

Yea, had it very low, But I suppose for heating soup, beans, water etc, the pot is the main item.

Just not sure how those Chocolate Fondant Souffles will turn out!

I have a primus Li-tech one that looks exactly like that one. I only use the lid as a lid. Too small for much else.

I'll have to stand up for the titan kettle here! it may be a little pricey but you do get what you pay for, Its designed so you can fit the stove and a gas cart inside nice and snug. If your clever you can squeeze a windshield and striker in too. Imo its worth its weight (or lack there of!) in gold The size is perfect for cooking in and you can easily get a good man brew going in it aswell. I paid £35 for mine and I would pay it again if needed.

The metal warped? Take that back and ask for a new one! No way that should happen, must be a defect as optimus are pretty decent usually.
What stove are you using?

the next time there's a meet I can certainly see a cook off of some type taking place! Will it be Red Tomatoes or Green Peppers?

Forgot to say, I sent this back and it was replaced with a new one, must have been a faulty batch.
