Mourne Coastal Survey
« on: July 29, 2013 »

In 2005 a survey of the Mourne Coast from Greencastle to Dundrum was completed by Jo Whatmough [1], the survey covered vegetation, birds, intertidal habitats, seaweed and also 'human uses' suck as rock armouring, dumping, using both GPS and hand drawn maps.

The Mourne Heritage Trust/Mourne Mountain Landscape Partnership are running the survey again, this time taking small parts of the route, over the course of August on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

I was out with Jo on a dawn chorus/flora and fauna type morning a couple of months ago, she's very knowledgeable, very easy to talk to and has a massive passion for anything that's green and grows :)

If anyone is interested incoming along to help, or just for an excuse to walk along the beach, drop an email to Emma Cunningham, emma.cunningham@mourne.co.uk

Hello all,

I’m emailing you because you have expressed an interest in helping carry out a coastal survey alongside Jo Whatmough.

We have decided that we could carry out a survey on a Wednesday and one on a Saturday to cater for those of you who have work commitments during the week.

The first survey is planned for Saturday 03 August, at 2pm to allow for tide times, we’ll either start in the middle of the patch in Kilkeel and move north towards Ballymartin or at Greencastle and move towards Cranfield.  Once I know who is available to go along I’ll confirm.

Subsequent survey dates would be Wednesday 07th, Saturday 10th , Wednesday 14th, Saturday 17th, Wednesday 21st , Saturday 24th and Wednesday 28th .

Could you please let me know which dates you intend on coming along and also if you have a current first aid certificate.

Best regards,

Emma
