My Leki's are well bashed but in good nick.  I did have a problem with the twist lock in the cold which resulted in me breaking the bottom of the pole off, but it was replaced under warranty.  They can work loose easily in sub-zero temps apparently and need a regular check - the BD mechanism is better in that regard.

I recently got Inov8 Terrocs.  I normally move quite fast and they certainly dry quickly to 'sweaty sock in a boot' levels.  It is weird at first feeling that chill of water rush in the first time you go into a stream or bog but it pumps out so fast and the ventilation helps evaporate the rest.  Dry socks at camp, but I always did that anyway.  The only thing is that I was up at the weekend and due to my friend being entirely unfit we had a very gentle saunter; and I imagined I may have felt cold had it not been such a dry day as my legs were not pumping warm blood down there.

There are so many types of trail shoes too - I'm quite a barefoot running type and even the Terrocs feel clunky to me and stress my calves running so I may switch to something really light like the X-talon 190.  They're ok for walking.  Everyone's use is different, and at least we are all catered for nowadays!

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions everyone.

I eventually ended up with the Salomon Speed Cross 2 (£80) from Cotswold......

I think I bought them because they looked the most stylish !  And based on MG's suggestion too.  The soles of them are like football boots with studs (feels a bit like walking on stilts initially)!

Had them up the cavehill and they were pretty good, though i still was sliding a bit on the muddy trails.  Anyway, hopefully they'll be the ticket !
