Hi All
« on: May 29, 2013 »

Hi everyone  :)

Another new member here from Newtownabbey.

I have not done much in the outdoors since being in the scouts and DOE
(over 25 years ago!) but want to get my 6 year old out and away from the TV.
So just starting him on some simple walks, e.g. Carnmoney Hill, part way up Hare's Gap,
Glenariff Park etc.

Keen to build up to longer day hikes and also some wild camping (without the young one )

Hope to be able to get some knowledge from the forum and meet some people on a few hikes.

Andy

Hi Andy, welcome to NI Wild.  Carnmoney Hill is a great wee oasis, I enjoy taking the kids up there too.  Hope you enjoy getting back into it all.

Hi Guys

Thanks for the welcome

Carnmoney Hill certainly is a little gem for a family walk.

I am really only using the excuse of getting the kids out to allow
me to buy some hill walking and camping gear!

Welcome. Always good to see parents getting the kids out for some fresh air. It's more fun than they tend to realise.

Had the whole family out last night - glorious weather :)
Even our 2 year managed to get half way up Carnmoney Hill before
I had to put him in the baby backpack.
But my heart rate shot through the roof finishing the rest of the hill
with a 2 year old on my back ::)
A race back down the hill between my wife, a 6 year old and me with baby on back
shouting GO GO was a real laugh!

I know what you mean!

I am the wrong side of 40 and have lived in Newtownabbey most of my life
and last week was the first time I even knew there were walks on it.

I am off tomorrow for my first camp with my 6 year old boy
to a campsite outside Dungiven - not exactly wild camping but from little acorns.

We have the car packed with enough gear for a trans africa overland so hopefully
will learn to reduce with more experience.

I will try to do a write up on the trip and a review on the site.
