Tent Groundsheets and Carpets
« on: March 03, 2013 »

So my tent has a built in groundsheet but I've been thinking to protect I'd better get something for under it. The issue is finding something the right size and at a decent price. But I thought I'd give it a go at making one.

So any tips on what material to use? Also, is it worth coming up with a sort of 'carpet' to protect the groundsheet from inside?

Hi kyle I'm pretty new on here too and to wild camping and am only starting on my learning curve but one lesson I have learnt only yesterday don't make the same mistakes as me and start buying stuff because you think you need it, I don't mean the big obvious stuff its all the wee things like the stuff I carried to the sprinkwee river in a 70ltr pack with no room for another peanut and didn't need or use the half of it. My mate took all his gear in a 40ltr. So my new line of thought is if your life doesn't depend on it you'll probably not need it.  So as for the extra groundsheet you'll probably not need it.

Glenn is very right about spending money uneccessarily, a cheap tarpaulin for under a fiver should do the job.

A 99p tarp form B&M will do the job nicely and they're not terribly heavy. Plus they can double as a shelter in an emergency.

Update: Managed to find a roll of some old plastic stuff in a hangar at work, going to go at it with scissors and and eye lit kit tonight and see what I can do.
