Hang on there, Why cant we allow others tosuch place of beauty? Think  about people who are disablled?

Well I could have as easily used going to the cinema, a concert or a workplace or even a college in ballymena. By your reckoning they couldn't get in before so they won't miss a movie, band, being employed or getting educated.

I don't know enough about all the factors that are involved with the various improvements that have been discussed on here recently to get involved but your last sentence prompted me.

Are you arguing that anywhere that is currently inaccessible to some people should be made accessible?

I think open access to basic goods and services goes without saying. To try to link Oisin's views on a specific issue regarding development on a mountainside, to that of access to the places you mentioned seems to have missed the point being made.

Never did the Cairngorms any harm having the ptarmigan.
Do you mean the funicular specifically?  It replaced chairlifts that were already there and it doesn't permit access to the mountain* unless you are skiing.

*unless you are on their guided tour.

Is it really comparable to use ski resorts in Scotland as an example when talking about mountains in NI?

The ptarmigan is not atthe top it is about 300 from the summit which is whats planned here. also yes the train did replace old chair lifts that where not always there (They had to be put up once.)

I'd like the Mournes to be covered in natural forest as they were thousands of years ago, but many would object to that. Man has already abused or used the landscape

I would not use it.

Agreed again.

I'm not arguing that. I was pointing out that Oisin stated in response to Lenny's mention of disabled ppl that they won't miss what they dont have( I found his rather crass), well they didn't have access ( or easy access) to the things I mentioned in many cases but they sure as hell missed it.

If you actually read what I said I never mentioned disabled people not missing what they collectively dont have.

Its not something that is being took away, it hasnt been there before. What you dont have you dont miss.

I didnt say "What disabled people dont have they dont miss" did I? It was a simple phrase to reinforce the point that I dont believe it is a necessary build, and the fact that we dont have it at the minute means that we don't miss it now, do we? It was a separate statement relating to EVERYONE, no matter what colour or creed. Had I of been wanting to (which I never would) single out someone with a disability I would have included the phrase in the same paragraph, and not at the end of a comment.

I never intended to offend or insult anyone who is disabled and or has family or knows of people who are disabled. It wasnt me that brought the idea of disability into the equation, and I didnt mean for people to get so wound up about it.

A simple mis-read and not in anyway, shape or form a comment saying that we should take away all the ease of access ramps that lead into buildings and throw them away, as I feel has been made out.

Oisin.
