Could anyone confirm where the fires are or have been as I had intended to lead a group up Donard on Sunday from Newcastle and down the Bloody Bridge side towards Chimney Rock.I'm a farmer as well as being a keen  hill-walker like most on here  and while I can't talk for all farmers it angers me to constantly hear this rubbish being  being spouted about EU subsidies etc.
I don't know as does anyone else who started the fires but an educated guess from common sense and past experience on my own farm points 90% of the time to young louts(for want of a better word ) Who never did a days work on a farm or anywhere else in their lives and really don't understand or care about the harm and danger caused !

its made the news now

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-17566889

Quote
Large gorse fire on Slieve Donard in Mournes

Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service members are currently at the scene of a large gorse fire in the Mourne Mountains in County Down.

The fire is high on Slieve Donard above Bloody Bridge.

No firefighters are tackling the blaze at the moment as it is not endangering any life or property.

A Fire and Rescue Service crew, however, is keeping watch on the situation.

It seems to me that when it makes the news, the problem only gets worse.  We need rain.

Well had a good look at the damage done by the fire, truth told it vey limited, more like the size of a football field, where chimney rock meets farmland.
