TalkyToaster maps
« on: February 05, 2012 »

Anybody an 'Idiots Guide' too talkytoaster maps? I have been trying to set it up for two nights now but i have had no joy whatsoever  :( I have never seen them working so wouldnt mind seeing them in action just too compare them, but by the rate im working it, GPS's will be a thing of the past and the whole thing will be a massive waste. ANY help would be great  :)

I fought with this for a while myself. Turned out my issue was whenever I transferred the map to my Garmin I had to rename it GMAPSUPP.IMG or it didn't work. Once I did that it was all awesome.

The Openstreetmap with contours is brilliant for the Mournes. I've been thinking we should band together and get involved with OSM to try and improve them for the outdoor areas we use lots by adding features.

What GPS have you got?

Talky maps are awesome. They do show trails and other useful info.

I have a Garmin Dakota 10. I'd like to compare Talky's free maps with Garmin's £100 OS maps.

I have an etrex 20. Good gps, i just have always used a map and compass so hard getting used too having it as additional equipment.

Is the talkytoaster maps just a matter of saving the area you require as a picture or something? Its completely over my head, anyone fancy running a course some day on it  :D

Just follow the instructions on the talkytoaster page. Download the file that you want, inside will be instructions, copy the whole map onto your device.
