Kite World Record Attempt
« on: March 03, 2011 »

I am considering making a challenge for the world record of "most kites flying at same location" on 7/8/11, and want to figure out if there is enough interest from people who would want to paticipate in the effort.
It will be a huge logistical task, we need to field 6200+ individual kite-flyers to break the current record. The spectacle of seeing this number of kites in the air together will be fantastic.
The location is Newcastle.
If anyone is interested, please drop a post here or to my email. Thanks.

Sounds interesting. Where in Newcastle would you hold this that would be big enough for 6k kites in the air at once?

I'm in.

We were flying on the East Strand on Saturday for the first time in over a year, trying (unsuccessfully) to get my new kite camera working.   :-\
My kids'd love to join the record attempt too, but chances are, with their ... skills ...  they'd be more of a hazard than anything.  ::)

It's an MD80 camera I got from 7dayshop for twenty squids.
given the size and the price, and the accessories that came with it, the video quality is unbelievable.

Search for MD80 on youtube.

Have looked long and hard at this and have concluded that it is too big a project (for me) to organise for a GWR attempt this year. May be considered for next year, and I will PM all who have expressed an interest, but will need to have many more people involved.

A Kite Festival will be arranged in Newcastle for the same date this year, and we are hoping to attract many "sky creations" to take part.
