I did a test last night between a standard Jetboil and a Trangia 27L to bring 1 pint of water to a full boil. The trangia took 10 minutes and Jetboil 5. Obviously that was in the kitchen with tap water which doesn't take wind etc into account. Either way, I would have expected the Jetboil to be faster.

Does anyone have any boil times for any other stoves?

I have an MSR whisperlite ...its meant to boil a litre in 3.5 minutes ,I've never tested this tho

I'll have a go this evening when I get home

from what I've seen the Msr reactor will boil a litre of water in around 3mins no mater what the conditions (there are hundreds of youtube vids you can watch and countless reviews). people seem to push this thing as hard as it will go just to, i even read a review where they user pushed the cart into a bath of ice and it still boiled due to the unique pressure regulator. 5mins for the jet boil seems pretty crap for the amount of hype they give it, was it a new cart? it doesnt have a p.reg so they can be a bit dodgey on half full and below. also they are bringing out a proper pot for the reactor soon, i'm tempted to stick it on the old santa list!

My whisperlite boiled half a litre ( close to a pint) in 2mins 20 secs outside tonight

Thought I would add mine to the mix. I have the Optimus Nova plus, it's running on white gas.

Boil time is in around the two minute mark for a 650-700 ml of water in a Primus EtaPower pot.

Just did a test of my new COLEMAN 533 PETROL STOVE 1lt water out in my back yard in the open 11 minutes its not great is it lads

I reckon you could get that down a good bit. Did you have a wind shield? what kind of pot did you use? did it have a lid? look at matthew's post, the eta pot has special fins to transfer heat directly to the pot so very little energy is wasted.

Im gona have another go tonite and put up a wind shield i used a small whistling kettel its inclosed with just a small spout for filling/pouring so that should be ok.

This shows the heat exchanger in better detail. Its a brilliant wee pot. I would highly reccomend it.
