Home Drying Room
« on: June 24, 2013 »

Being so particular about keeping my gear clean it seemed the one thing I was spending more time on than washing gear was drying it.

I found myself wondering, what if I had a drying room?

Bathroom + coathangers, clothes horses etc.

Meaco DD8L dehumidifier + door closed

One drying room!

Successfully dried a winter down bag (800g of down) overnight, it's now puffy and dry as a bone.

Here's a snapshot of the temp and humidity of the room after a few hours:

Nice one  ;)

It's a hard thing to do right.

The last bag I washed I took it straight to the dry cleaners and got them to tumble dry it on low with 3 tennis balls. Was done in less than an hour and a great job too.

This is a pretty cool idea, though I dread to think the cost of running the dehumidifier overnight never mind buying it in the first place. I just hang stuff in the garage, then forget about it until I'm next out ;)

Can't see the pic tho, it's a broken link for me.

Its a dessicant so in a closed environment its grand unless you try to dry a down sleeping bag overnight lol.  It runs on standby around the house all the time as we dry clothes in the house kicks in a few times a night.

I quite often need stuff dried for a trip later the same week so I'm kinda stuffed options wise :'(

Here's the pic
