My top 5 (could bore you with top 20 but won't  ::))

1) NI Wild.... no further intro needed
(Just bookmark it to the homescreen... or hand it to someone in the know)

2) Everytrail Pro .... this one you can download maps from all kinds of walks all over the world. People review them and post their pics / give their tips. The pro version works without internet which is handy

3) Find my iphone .... works on ipad too.

4) Trip Advisor .... Find online reviews and nuggets of info about anywhere you visit: attractions, hotels, pubs etc

5) Kindle App .... turns your Ipad into your own personal library.

**If you haven't got a case I'd recommend the "Griffin Survivor" case especially if you're taking it outdoors. I've the smaller version for the Iphone and it's saved it more times than enough!

There's a windows for Mac programme that allows you to use windows office products (word, excel etc) ... Pricey though: unless u can borrow a copy of the software  ::)

Not an app but I can highly recommend this cover:

Griffin GB35108 Survivor Military Duty Case

Technical Details

* Independently tested and certified to meet conditions outlined in US Department of Defense MIL-STD-810

* Integral Display shield deflects wind and rain (Test: up to 200 mm/hr for 1 hour)

*Rigid internal frame protects against shocks and drops (Test: drop on flat concrete surface from 6'/1.8 m)

* Sealed ports block blown sand and dust (Test: up to 18 m/sec for 1 hour)

* Silicone cladding blocks vibration (Test: 18 hrs at 20 to 2000 Hz)

Can be bought on Amazon for £37.50.

Mine arrived today and it's a nice tidy fit and has an integrated internal hard plastic case and screen cover which offers superb protection.

:)
