Peet Dryers
« on: January 27, 2012 »

Hi folks,

As I'm pretty obsessive about keeping my boots in good nick (rinse, shampoo, rinse, proof and brush after every outing) It seems they spend half their time drying out and half their time on my feet.

I'm considering a peet dryer, the goretex website says gentle convection type footwear dryers should be fine for hiking boots, does anyone here have any thoughts on that?

This is the cheapest ive been able to find them with UK power (you can get the US power ones for tuppence it seems)

Look how cheap they are in the US

Wonder if there's a UK branded alternative?

flippin expensive  :o

I take it your boots are not GTX type?

Not sure why you think you need to use such a device.

I was always told to just let them dry without using direct heat etc.

Mostly to get rid of sweat.
I give them a thorough rinse down using the shower head 3-4 times during my cleaning regimen (theyre left like new immediately after every walk - even the soles) - during that inevitably some water gets in.

I usually stuff them with newspaper - takes them between 12 hours and a day to dry out, but that's with leaving the heat on to heat the room they're in - and I find that wasteful.

I use my boots every day as well as for the hillwalking - people often doubt from looking at them that theyve ever seen a hill at all!

I won't be paying that price for them, but if I can find a cheaper (yet still gentle and safe) alternative, I'll go for it.

Ive a pair of boots to dry after yesterday, you can have a go at them if you like, but it will take more than a peet dryer!  :o  lol
