mushroom books?

My interest in mushrooms is growing exponentially this month, they seem to be everywhere i walk now, i think i may even start picking them to eat  :o so are there any good books describing the local varities?

I've been on several fungi identification courses/forays over the years...

Again, echoing what Oisin said...

If you want to eat mushrooms, buy them from Tesco's...!!!

I've a photo somewhere, table 2-3 times bigger of the ones you couldn't eat compared to the ones you could eat after a foray around Crom Estate last August...

Dowser has a book and I think he thought it was very good. We did a "Fungus Walk" through one of the forests outside Holywood were we were shown different mushrooms and given info on what was good to eat. Can't remember who organised it, Simon, Dowser and Suspectmonkey were there too, maybe they'll know.

Just found out we have a Northern Ireland Fungus Group  ;D ( www.nifg.org.uk )

and they have a list of local species http://www.nifg.org.uk/edible_fungi.htm  with cool names like "the death cap" and "the destoying angel"  :o

That has jogged my memory! It was the NIFG and what we went on was called the "Fungal Foray".

Just found out we have a Northern Ireland Fungus Group  ;D ( www.nifg.org.uk )

Highly recommended, it was only a few hours and even without the shroom chat it was still a fun walk.
