Okey Dokey .. I am planning off roading in the Sperrins this coming weekend. A circular route taking in Bohilbreagha,Craignashoke,Mullaghmore,White,Glenshane+Corick Mountains on the glenshane pass.
Probably starting around 9:30am, 10 Miles, 800m ascending, forest track, bog and rock and perhaps a pint in the Pondarosea after
Last time I did this it took me 7.5 hours.

Here is the Route http://www.walkjogrun.net/routes/current_route.cfm?rid=156AB349-9C30-F1A4-FEE6FD31AE8E3DE3&success=1

Way way way to wet, windy and generally EUGH to go off track with map and compass in the high sperrins this weekend. So I contented myself ticking off another of the Sperrins, Carntogher, which thanks to the locals has a nice waymarked track all the way up and down. Got pissed on mightly and buffetted like crazy, but t'was a good 6.5 miles with a 464m climb threw in and I am definitly going back when the weather is better!
Read the Blog bit here http://slightlydoolally.com/wp/?p=2708 adn the piccies here http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150238899401482.320879.576026481&l=7a6cd220c8

So the Glenshane dander is posponed till next week

The weather was wild at the weekend, must have been a tough one. Though some of my best outings have been in terrible weather. Lets you know you're alive :)

@redleader Ain't that the truth and oddly I wasn't the only idiot on the mountain. I saw a chap Runniing .. yes Running in shorts and a singlet thru the mist coming down as I was going up. Gave me a cheery "Bout Ya" as he passed me .. and when I arrived back the at the car there was a wee lassie getting out of her car and donning her wet weather gear to head out as well. Just goes to show I am not the only odd bodee up at the top end of the province.

We did the Brandy Pad from Meelmore Lodge down into Annalong Wood last year at Easter (April) and it was knee deep in snow with driving hail most of the way. We'd a great time but if it wasn't for the fact we were camping in a forest and could light a fire to dry gear I don't know what we'd have done as we were pretty drenched by the end of it.

We had one like that back in the 70s when I was DOE'ing. Knocklayde to Murlough bay overland, 9 hours of snow, hail, gales, rain and ending in fog. Ended up camped in Murlough in 4" of snow. Great fun, but the plan to "catch" our supper was scuppered, we ended up eating mussel, limpits, cockles, winkles stew thickened with carrageen and samphire for colour. One of the best meals I have ever had, even if a really really odd colour.

Simply brilliant.... I want to do more of this sort of stuff. We did a stealth camp a few months back and Dowser foraged for shellfish etc and made a meal out of it. Was a brilliant night and top grub!

You can eat really well in the rough :-) if you have the time and in the inclination. If you need to find out how to snare bunnies and the like or build fish traps on a rocky shore. I am your man ;-)
