New Terra Nova Tents
« on: June 22, 2011 »

I spotted on Twitter that several outdoor bloggers were invited to spend an afternoon with Terra Nova to preview their 2012 tents.  Some superb looking tents, including a budget branded Wild Country tent that is very similar to the Laser Comp with a weight around 1.4kg and cost around £100.  When you think about it, that's a phenomenal tent when you consider weight vs. cost.  Even the extremely well priced Vango tents around that price point tent to weigh in closer to the 2kg mark.

There is also a rather tasty Solar Photon 2, a sub-kilo two person tent.  Looking at the shape and design it reminds me a lot of my Vaude Hogan Ultralight, but with lighter materials and an added guy point on the side which should provide extra stability in the wind.

Check out all the tasty details here - http://backpackingbongos.wordpress.com/2011/06/22/an-afternoon-with-terra-nova/

Pegs with the Terra Novas !!!

Is anyone using the orig. pegs with the Laser Comp. I've reverted to the Ali pegs (50p each).-----in fact never did use the originals ---didn't know how they would perform in a gale !!

I haven't had a chance to try my Laser Comp in anger yet, but when I gave it the obligatory "garden pitch" I didn't even take the supplied pegs out of the bag.  Used Alpkit Ti-pins instead.  That was purely based on what I'd heard from other peoples experiences, but in fairness I might give them a try sometime seeing they seem to be working for Mike!  Will keep my Alpkits in the rucksack as backups just in case though ;)

nightmare looking up terra nova tents and of course now I really really want one. its devestating. just spent two nights in tollymore with the girlfriend in a crappy lidl effort the winds got up to gale force and the rain was pretty extreme the tent ended up in such a state I believe a new one will be required if I ever can convince her to come camping again.

Did the Lidl tent actually stay up in the bad weather? You should do a writeup, sounds like an interesting weekend.
