Inspiration
« on: June 09, 2011 »

Want to get up the hills this weekend and looking for some inspiration for a new route. Sort of 10km max, nothing too strenuous, but enough hills to stretch the legs and lungs! Any ideas?

Depends entirely on where your going?

Let's limit it to Northern Ireland!

East coast is more accessible, but feel free to inspire for anywhere. I would have walked extensively around most of the province.

Not sure how long the trial is but me and the girlfriend took a walk in Carnfunnock in Larne, and walked up the back of the forest and then took a public footway down to Balleygalley. Nice wee walk, nothing to strenious.

And if you wanted you could walk on from balleygalley into the antrim hills, just depends on how adventurous your feeling.

a walk I like is to park at the ott track car park in the mournes, up the ott track to the wall, then follow the wall up slieve loughshannagh, then down the other side, then up and over meelbeg, then back down to the "happy valley" car park, before you get to the car park, bear left and  follow the ulster way round the back of fofanny reservoir and back up the road to return to where you started.

Oddly enough the walk I planned if I didn't get new inspiration was that exact one from Ott car park!

Another interesting walk is from Silent Valley Park.  Walk along the right/east side of the reservoir and on to the northern tip of Ben Crom resevoir. Stunning views, tarmac road to the bottom of Ben Crom Dam then contouring along the edge of Ben Crom reservoir.

Please see earlier post:-

I'm thinking of doing this on Friday.  Starting time to be confirmed but hopefully around 9 ish.  There is a charge into the park however car is therefore probably more secure.
