Pro Action Hike Lite Poles
« on: January 19, 2011 »

As anyone who made it to the summit (err... col?) camp on Meelmore at the weekend knows I had a bit of trouble with my Pro Action Hike Lite tent when pitching it for a friend, with the front pole snapping about an inch away from the bend. As the tent now seems to be discontinued and therefore unlikely to get any support from argos would anyone happen to have a spare pole, perhaps you've upgraded to a better tent and have your pro action kicking around in the garage unused and gathering dust?

I'd be happy either to pick it up in person or cover the postage costs, and send a couple of quid (or a drink of something nice at the next meet) your way for the hassle.

I know this will be a bit more hassle but if you can't turn the right pole up any other way you can purchase universal poles at this website - http://www.tentspares.co.uk/category/1/Universal-Spares - if you know the diameter you can cut to size, and re-thread it with elastic. I keep a tent repair box but then I'm car camping and don't worry about the weight. But even so a roll of black insulation tape is a small thing to carry and it get's a cracked or broken pole sorted out even if it's only a temporary fix.

Thanks for the link there VMCC although i don't think theres anything there that I could use. The poles for the pro action hike lite tent have two corner pieces, with about a 45° angle. The corner piece is made with a tube about 9mm in diameter, with a collar at about 11mm in diameter over it to reinforce it, and the inner tube has snapped on one side right at the end of the collar. I'm thinking about getting a piece of piping about 12mm to place over the whole think, and hope that under tension it will hold everything in place.

I had a set but unfortunately I gave them away.

Next best thing is probably a Gelert Solo which @ £24.99 at Amazon isn't a bad price.
