Police rescue, Mourne Mountains
On Saturday 6 March, police rescued 14 people who became stranded in the Mourne Mountains.
At around 5.25pm, police received a call from a person who reported that they and 13 other individuals were lost in the area of Cove Mountain. PSNI Air Support was tasked, along with land crew back up.
All 14 persons were removed from the mountain by the police helicopter. There are no reports of any injuries and all the individuals are reported to be in good physical health at this time.
Inspector Kieran Quinn praised the professionalism of PSNI colleagues, in particular the personnel from the Air Support Unit.
He said: "Our pilots performed magnificently in very difficult circumstances. They coped with fading light conditions and tricky terrain to perfect a safe and successful rescue effort. We are delighted that all concerned have been returned safe and well."

That's a big group to get lost ..... glad they are all safe and well, I just wonder if they had any maps or compasses if they knew they where around Cove and why some one in the group couldn't have navigated them down ?

saturday was clear weather!
They must not have a had even a compass or map!
as you all know i'm by no means a expert at this but holly i commented a few times on saturday of how un prepared some people where walking up in the mournes in the snow! I know it was a clear day but all it takes is for something to go wrong and it could get very cold and scary if you didnt have basic gear with you!

It is believed the consultants were involved in a team-building exercise.
Well thats problem solving ticked off their list! I can only imagine what staff morale would be like after a team building exercise that resulted in you being rescued!
I jest of course, I know its no laughing matter as being lost in the dark is something I hope I don't experience, but you think at least one person in the group would have been experienced and leading them?

Maybe their problem was...how do you get 14 people on a helicopter ride for free?

they would have really been shocked if they had wandered into Donard Wood and came across a bunch of NI Wilders roasting chickens on a campfire
-
In fairness we did have enough meat to feed all of them :D
