Hi There,
I'm Mike, and I like to walk up hills :o
I'm planning on taking a trip to Nepal later this year, and so I thought I'd better get in shape and actually appreciate our local wilderness\mountain beauty.
I'm 33, but I'm only a noob at this lark, don't even have a tent, its so hard to pick one.
Mainly, I'd say my interests are walking up hills\camping - though I'd like to learn bushcraft and canoeing and all sorts of stuff, so maybe this website will help open up these opportunities to me.
Mike.

And I live right beside the Cavehill and hopefully looking some outdoor action most weekends.

Welcome to the forum Mike. What are you going to be doing in Nepal?
There's stuff plenty of being organised here all the time, just get involved anywhere you see something you like - I'm up Cave Hill all the time, you're welcome to join me. We'll also be camping in Donard Forest this weekend - feel free to come along, if you don't have the gear for camping you could just pop up for a few hours and introduce yourself.

Thanks J, I'm going to do some trekking around the annapurna circuit, haven't quite made up my mind exactly which route or anything to take.
Maybe I will join you dudes this Saturday don't think I've anything else planned.

Hi Mike, welcome to the forum.
If your in the market for a tent, take a look at this thread (http://www.ni-wild.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=384.0). Might be some useful info in there if you haven't already had a look!

hi mike new hear myself. one bit of advise on buying a tent dont get caught up in have to buy an expensive one to make your self look good a tent up to £100 with an hh [water resistance] of 3000 to 5000 and about 2 to 3.5kilo there are lots of brands best check tent reveiws.com for the one that most suits your needs. good luck and happy camping, ps ebay for best bargins........

Mike, I've some stuff that I'm planning on selling. If you wanted a tent to get you started I might be able to help. I've a gelert Mongoose Two man tent thats only been used a handfull of times (I Bought it for the Mourne Mountain Marathon two years ago) other than that its had one wild camp and one camp at the beach. I'd gladly let you take it off my hands if your interested, I rather someone get some use out of it than have the old girl sitting in my room! Its pretty much a cheaper version of the Vango Banshee range If you want some pics I'd be happy to oblige other than that its off to ebay!

Thanks for the welcome and the links to the tent review section. Its so easy to get sucked into buying an expensive tent - hopefully I'll get something reasonably cheap and decent to start with.
Also, I'm looking to pick up other bits and pieces of camping gear, stove, mess tins, just that basic stuff, if anyone has a bargain going, can message me plz.

There's a sample gear list here that you might find useful:

To get kitted out initially Amazon.co.uk is suprisingly good. They'll post for free if you don't mind waiting a few days and they keep a suprising amount of outdoors gear if you know what you're looking for.
