Cotswolds have a Mountain Hardwear Lamina 35 synthetic sleeping bag for £45 (reduced from £90). Seems like a bargain if you're after a first bag. I've no direct experience of Mountain Hardwear but I hear great things about them so this would probably be significantly better (and lighter) than any other budget bag.
- Ripstop nylon shell
- Thermic Micro fill
- Durable Water Resistant finish
- Welded Lamina seams
- Double sliding zipper
- Internal zippered pocket
- Pack size 38cm x 19cm
- Comfort lower limit 0°c
- Weight: 1.08kg

Anybody know anything about this bag?

I can get it for about £80
-
That seems alright for £80ish. There's not much chat about it online but what there is is quite positive. It seems to be 1200g which is good but I did see elsewhere that it was 1500g which is a tad heavy - might want to check.

Kirth, I'd say you would be far better going for the Alpkit SkyeHigh 600

I thought Alkpit had stopped doing the Skyhigh. No idea where I heard that as it was totally wrong :) Definitely better getting Alpkit over Vango.
-
Kirth I def think Alpkit is the ticket..... I just think before buying you should really try to think about the amount of use it's going to get (ie. do you see yourself doing a lot of winter camping or is it only really for spring and summer use as you do want to be comfortable)
I just think that a little more spend now may pay dividends in the end. The alpkit bags pack small, weigh little and are probably the best value for money against comparable bags.
-
Just going to stick to my original plan and get the PD400!

The alpkit bags are great you'll not go far wrong with of them.

The question is pd400 or pd600 ..... I decided 600 for an extra 5 degrees and only £20 there wasn't much to think about an I can live with the extra weight and pack size which is minimal :D
Actually I think thats what everyone that has bought one on this forum concluded..... lol.

Just went to get my PD400 and they are out of stock, :-[ :-[ :-[

You can register and they'll email you when they're back in stock.

Thats the thing about alpkit there not a major company so the have to keep stock levels down. And then they run out of stuff. ::)

I ended up going for a PD400, although was a rather tricky decision for the sake of £20 and a small weight/size difference. Still, the PD400 in its "Jaffa" colour will keep me at least 5 degrees warmer by reminding me of a favourite trail food :)
Kirth, you really need to be quick with the Alpkit sleeping bags as they go out of stock within no time of arriving back in stock! As J says the best way is to sign up to be notified by e-mail and then jump on them when they are back in stock. Kat ordered one just a few days ago so looks like she was lucky enough. Hopefully there will be another shipment due soon, they are definitely worth holding out for.

The only problem is "how long is a piece of string" ....... you might wait longer than you really want too.
What about the 600 or as Ulster walker suggested the skyehigh range ?
-
I rang them yesterday and they had one, left side zip and in red. Bought it there and then.

Now all you need to do is use it asap !

What about the weekend of teh 13th of March? I will need a bit of notice to book the Saturday off work.
-
I still fancy doing an Antrim Hills overnighter - I know there was one pencilled in for next weekend but not sure if its still going ahead? Next weekend is a bit dodgy for me date wise, but could better arrange 13th if it suited?
-
Antrim Hills sounds good to me, I couldnt go next week as its mother day on the Sunday, so will be having to cook the wife breakfast, lunch & dinner.

Phew, thanks for the heads up there!
Do you want to move this one over to the Antrim Hills thread then and see if can get an overnighter sorted for 13th-14th if it suits everyone else?
EDIT: Just checked there... is Mothers Day not 14th March? That might rule out the 13th for some?

Your right John it is. So that messes that up for me.
