Hi
I live in Bangor, married with children. Single life activities included walking, camping, out doors stuff, bush craft/survival (mostly armchair ;), though Belfast on a Friday night...!
Recently would like to get back to the wild by walking, kayaking, camping.
I am building a kayak and want it ready for the end of March to join CANI on the Bann.
I am getting interested in ultra light long distance walking, but have no immediate plans.
I found the site by accident earlier today and reading some of the have-done/would-like-to-do logs, it was like reading my own imaginary diary. You sound like my type of people.

Welcome Pinki. I'm interested in your self build kayak - that sounds fun. I have a Canadian but don't get out as much as I would like.

Welcome to the forums Pinki,

Hi Pinki, not too far from you, I'm in Helen's Bay
Building a Kayak sounds interesting, not to be stupid but what are you making it from?
-
Hey Pinki, greetings to you too. Yup, that self-build kayak sounds interesting! I've been tempted by a self build canoe, but a kayak sounds like a real challenge.

Hi Pinki, seems to be a growing number of Bangor folk on here (myself included!). Welcome to the forum!

Thanks to you all for the welcomes.
Well as to the kayak, it will be plywood and expoy resin. I got the plans a while ago (April 2007 :-[).
I got the plans from a boat and canoe designer in exchange for about £35. I bought the ply last May/June with the thoughts of cutting out the panels and then glueing them together at my leisure. At my leisure is taking longer than I had anticipated. In my defence I am also making a folding kayak (plywood and canvas) from free plans found on the internet due to limited storage space. Cheap and hopefully chearful. I plan to test them in the Pickie pool in Bangor, my local safe water. I'll keep you posted.
To you Bangor and close by people, you may see me round the harbour and along the coast soon, especailly when the mackeral are running.
Talk to you soon.

Give us a shout when you're ready for testing and we'll come watch. We'll break a bottle of NI-Wild Buckfast over the bow for good luck before you launch!
