hi i was wanting to no if anyone knows of a safe car park i can leave my car in for a few days while hiking in the mournes. thanks
-
they are all pretty safe im my experience, never had or heard of anyone having any trouble. There is one at melmoore lodge that you pay and display at if that gives you any more piece of mind.
-
Donard is pretty safe as well. I hear carrick little is a bit dodgy.

Donard car park in Newcastle has cameras in it so I think it's probably quite safe. Meelmore is definitely safe but you have to pay to park there. We left a car in Carrick Little a few weeks ago and it was fine but I hear really bad stories.
That said, between Meelmore and Donards access you can get pretty much anywhere in the Mournes quite easily with a bit oa w walk. Anywhere that you would camp that's close to easy car parking will probably be pretty full of dicks anyway!

As the others have said mate, Donard Park is probably the best bet, I've left the motor at another car park just below Foffany Dam which was also fine.
Re Carrick Little, I've only parked there for day hikes and it was fine, though I did notice scorch marks on the ground which is never good!
On a bit of a tenuous link, was anyone (or does anyone know anyone else who was) at Carrick Little car park on Saturday the 28th November?
I think I may have left my boots in the car park like an eejit and I was wondering had anyone seen / lifted them? I know it's a long shot, but worth a go!!

We were there the 5th Dec and 23rd Nov but not inbetween. Didn't see any rogue boots about I'm afraid.
I've been at the car park at Fofanny and just assumed that it would be as bad as any of the other remote, unlit ones. I also had a car broken into at Crocknafeola Wood years back.
