Hi,
I am Sebastian and I am going to go on a Winter trekking trip through North Ireland this December/January.
I was planning to go follow up the coast from Belfast to Derry then get back to the Mourne mountains in some way. Mu fist trip will be around 3 weeks long and I'm looking for the best way to experience your beautiful country with some help from you hikers :D.
Hope to see you around the forums!

I was looking for a place to hike in our Winter that would be worth it for under a month and I have always looked far away. Then I realized that Ireland has quite a mild climate in Winter and it seemed like a pretty doable trip.
Would I need any more then a standard 4 layer system and some good shells for rain? I have a tent that is constructed as 4-seasons, but It cant handle any sort of snow load, wind should be fine. My sleeping bag is a -7C/20F, but I find it quite toasty at that temp.

Welcome to the forum Sebastian, it looks like you might have some dramatic weather on your route during the time period, but sure it all adds to the experience.
There was an american backpacker who recently hiked round Ireland and the UK in the last few months. Part of his route was from Derry to Larne (then the ferry to Scotland) which may give you an idea of various camping spots up around the North Coast when you're hiking towards Derry:

Thanks :D.
I have looked at his blog a couple of days ago and it seemed like a great trip. Will plan a bit of my route accordingly.
Imo there is no bad weather, just insufficient gear :P!
