Title: Possible summer camp?
Post by: Rich.H on March 05, 2014
I noticed in another thread someone put a link to the Ardnavally scout centre http://www.ardnavally.com/ (http://www.ardnavally.com/) I took a look through their page and it seems a very well setup place. I know of two large scale bushcraft camps run over in England each year that are essentially big summer camps in comfy surroundings for folks to get together and such taking either as much or as little as they want and not having any worries about the usual wild camping issues. One example being http://www.thebushcraftshow.co.uk/ (http://www.thebushcraftshow.co.uk/)

The main problem with that and the others is just sheer expense, just getting there will be a hefty three figure number and so I have never gone to any as it surmounts to the prices of a small holiday. Just wondering if anyone would be interested in a larger get together than those that normally take place at Analog etc? No doubt if we had a big enough group it would mean the cost to each person to rent the camping area of the site would be quite low. Anyone like the idea of a summer glamp?

The entire campsite could be available in the summer as the Scouts camping season follow school term time.  Definitely worth looking at.

I think this may sadly be a dodo due to some of the restrictions on the site. They do not allow any animals on site and have a strict no smoking & alcohol rule. The no smoking does seem odd when you consider they provision for open fires in the camping field, but I guess it could be due to it being a place mostly used by groups with under 16s as a majority.

So unless one of the admin team want to try contacting them directly and making a case for responsible folks with a dog or two I can't see it being very practical.

I suppose no smoking or booze is understandable somewhere created for and aimed mostly at kids.

That said, no-one's taking my one small hot toddy before bed occasional medicinal cigar :P I have a baby itching to camp, think I'll be doing something at Franks, probably next month before the midges take hold.
