Hi peeps, me and davy (kendogbaggio) where talking about the above bit of kit the karrimor sabre 45 rucksack, i was going to get it but I have been a bit put off by it now after talking to dave,
does anyone have this bit of kit and would they recommend it?
-
Why have you been put off?
-
I only looked at it there, it look good to me and the write up it gets is good. Not a bad price at £75
-
a wee bit put off mate because of the price, then after that you have to pay another 30quid for the side pounches, then after that if you want to use pounches on there own you need to buy the yoke, im not saying its rubbish kit it looks the part but is it worth the money that is being asked for it?
-
I like the idea of being to add and remove the pockets depending on how much you have to carry but I also don't fancy the price.
What sort of weight does it come in at?

Im thinking of getting the 75L with the side pockets and the yoke, But it says you can use the yoke for a day pack. Would you be able to fit mush in as it does not look that big ?

The side pockets are ten litres each, when you connect them to the yoke you have a 20 litre daysack,
There is also plenty of attachments on the side pouches the hang plenty of if you need it.
What are you planning on using it for? Are you going for weekly trips? I am only asking as I think the 45l is big enough for all my needs when I head out.

I think it will be money well spent and it wont disappoint you or let you down when you needed it most.

I take it the 75L is very big ill have to go into a shop and get a look how big, cheers Mouldsy
-
A 75l is a big bag and if you add the side pouches on you will have a 95l bag, If you are like me and the more room you have the more you pack in, I started off with a 75l bag and carried three stoves just because I had the room, If you are using it for the Mounres a 45l with side pockets will more than carry what you need.

Cheers Mouldsy, you saved me from maybe throwing the 95l of a cliff ;D

ive had a sabre 45 for years now and thouroughly recommend it. very supportive and plenty of room.
very well made pack and the zip on side bags are a great job.
as for the daysack conversion yolk? brilliant and that alone has carried all i need for an overnighter in the trees.(tarp and hammock setup with light down sleeping bag and mini trangia.
though i got mine for 40 quid from a bcuk lightweight ;D.

I can second the others that the Sabre 45 is bombproof. Mine has been bashed through forests, rocks and ice and still looks new. I've had 30Kg in it and it was me that broke :D
It's not very 'mountaineery', but I love the side pockets for storing gear orderly and having it accessible.
I've never been entirely happy with the fit of mine once I started using it - so would advise you to try on somewhere that has the different sizes as they are non-adjustable.
2 points against it:
- Durability comes at a cost - it is heavy. With the side pockets it is about 3Kg!
- The top of the bag is narrower than the bottom which makes getting things in and out a bit annoying.
I use mine now for day hikes, or putting weights in for training, but have a Granite Gear for longer trips as it is half the weight.
