Anyone done this before? I figured I would sign myself up for it as a taster of the Mournes and to get some sneeky navigation looks in advance of the MMM. My only real issue is the essential kit list include both waterproof jacket and trousers, the pack for the event specifies that anyone without the essentials list may be turned away on the day.

No I happily carry a good waterproof jacket anyway at all times, but trousers..... I hate them and have always felt they do bugger all, Good gaiters is all I ever use and really begrudge having to go and buy a set of waterproof trousers I know I will never wear just to get past a start line.

How strict are the event organisers on this issue? The trousers are the only point of contention for me as my normal day pack contains far more than what this event requires.

Strange web site, they talk about an equipment list called a "Pilgram pack"....but I can't actually find it....but they are the same people that organise the Mourne Wall Walk and on that page it says:

Quote
Those items listed as essential MUST be carried and a check will be completed on the day of the event by the Life team who will check your kit and in extreme cases reserve the right to disallow participants.
(emphasis is mine)

To me that reads like if you were to turn up in mutton dummies, speedios and carrying a 2l bottle of Buckie..they would "disallow" you....(but they can't actively stop you walking around them and heading on up the hill anyhow  ;D )

Saying all that, it's not worth fighting them over, I would just grab a cheapy pair, stick them in the bottom of your pack.
