I have penciled in 3rd and 4th of May to do the Mourne Wall Walk. I am going to start at Carrick Little and go round clockwise as I'd like to finish with Donard the next day.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a camp site? Just looking at the map I had thought somewhere about Hare's Gap as that gives me a way out down by Trassey should something happen overnight? I want to front load the miles on day 1 regardless.
Navigation wise it should be easy enough given you're following the wall the whole way.
Anyone else camping up there on night of 3rd May?

You can camp at Hare's Gap handily enough. I often camp at Lough Shannagh but that'll probably be too early for your route.
I'll likely be up that weekend but not arriving til the evening 3rd or morning 4th.
Anyway have a good trip :_).

Ill be Interested to read the replies to this as I am also planning a wall walk in a two day effort. Has thought about hares gap too for the camp. Also like you starting at carricklittle little and getting a big part done on day one.

Im thinking about the wall walk too but I intend doing it in 1 day if I can. Dont think im fit enough at the minute, I am training for the 7 7's though. If I am going to attempt it I am going to have to do it in June/july as my wife is due with our first baby late August and my days in the hills will be severely curtailed for a while. I was hoping a 5am start and plod on all day, by 8pm I should be nearly there.

I've yet to try this, i think i'd rather travel light and do it in one day, will wait and see how the seven sevens go first though :)

I'll not be about for it since I'll be in Florida. I wonder should I bag the state of Florida's highest point while I'm there - Britton Hill at an impressive 105m ???

Florida is mind numbingly flat!
The highest point is apparently a man-made garbage dump, which was made into a nice hill.
If you want a challenge have a go at the outdoor beach gyms. 35degree pull-ups....ugh.

Wherever you camp, you should think about your water supply. Unless you want to carry two days worth of water, you will be relying on streams. There arent many on the western section of the mourne wall and I dont think there are any near Hares gap. Otherwise its a nice campsite.

yes there is a pipe with flowing water there. on the western side you can hear the water.

Have done the Mourne Wall twice, both times in one day, first time starting at Carrick Little and heading clockwise, that way took us 11 hours, the second time we started in the same place and headed anti clockwise, that took us 12 hours. We thought the second time that it would have been easier getting Donard, Commedagh & Bearnagh out of the way early, but it seemed to sap all our energy and made for a much tougher day. Plan on doing it again this year and will definitly be doing it clockwise.

I've also done the Wall Walk twice, both times in one day.
Prior to that, I had a failed '2 dayer'. Failed due to a mixture of ill-preparation and ill-fortune. Ill-preparation in that we packed way too heavily, it's a long way to hawk gear around so I'd definitely suggest that you pack lightly or maybe stash gear somewhere along the route. Ill-fortune in that the weather turned massively during Day 1 and we ended up camping out in a storm (actually that's not bad luck, just pure stupidity on our behalf as we should have paid more attention to the weather forecast).
It's certainly do-able in one day if you have a decent level of fitness. Went round last year in 9hrs 27mins - am thinking of travelling very light (without camera etc.) this year to see what time I can do it in.

Did the wall for the third year in a row on Saturday. Eight of us set out from Annalong Wood heading clockwise, three quit at halfway point and got bus back, five completed it. We did it in 12.5 hours which is a record for us, last year was 17 hours (various mishaps ensued) and year before was 14 hours.
We're thinking next year we'll leave it and try Ben Nevis instead, but I love doing the wall.
