Title: New to Site
Post by: Binnianboy on February 01, 2013
Hello

Just joined the site, have been walking in the Mournes for over 20 years, think I have walked every route possible, including a yearly trip round the mourne wall (its gets harder very year) and just wanted to join to get new routes and meet some fellow walkers, i'm also a keen Sea Kayaker and do a small bit of mountain biking and climbing, but my main passion is definitly walking. Anyway Im always keen to here about routes people are walking so keep me posted, also how do you add a pic to your profile?

Ok lets say next weekend is the last time you'll get out for 6-9 months due to a knee-op, what walk will you plan?

Thanks for all the kind words guys!
Hey who Rya!
No walking for 9 months would be tough, I would want to get right into the heart of the mournes, somewhere quiet, hows about starting at the trassey track, walk to the wall, keeping to the left of the quarry, then down into the mouth of Ben Crom reservoir, walk the left hand side of the reservoir to the dam, cross the dam and scramble up Ben Crom, over the summit and down to Ben Crom river, follow the river to the wall at Meelbeg, climb Meelbeg and Meelmore and then follow the Trassey track back down or if your feeling brave climb Bearnagh as well, its a great walk and so lovely and quiet down by the river.
Hey Clairebear!
The Mourne Wall is a fantastic walk, tough though, my friend and I do it every year, although I missed 2012 as I was getting married  >:(! We always start at Carrick Little, usually doing Binnian 1st, then into the silent valley and catching the wall from there, thats my fave way of doing it and usually takes around 11 hours. We have done it starting at Annalong Wood and getting Donard, Commedagh & Donard out of the way 1st, the last time we started at this side it took us just over 12 hours. You will love it though, its tough but well worth it, good luck

Welcome to the forum Binnian boy, Hope to hear more of your walks. The walks you describe look very good. Tough though. Hope you enjoy the forum. You seem to know the Mournes like the back of your hand. Have you tried the Cooleys? Worth doing at least once.

Welcome Binnianboy, i'd be interested in visiting all the caves in the Mournes, so far i've done Percy, Cove, Ben Crom & Millstone, are there any more you are aware of?

Seems a worthy walk to 'dine on' for a while.

Welcome binnianboy!

I'm planning to do the mourne wall this year, looking forward to it. So any advice would be appreciated.

You should try the mourne marathon, always a new route every year. You can always look at their past routes on their website also.
