Dundonald was bad last night but not so sure what the countryside like ??

you'll have no problem getting to newcastle, the higher roads may be an issue though, hope to get down later for a look, here the newcastle webcam http://www.savoy-cafe.com/newcastle-webcam/

Bored outa my mind.
I'm off for a yomp now myself.
I'll post any photos if I get any worth putting up.
Just going as far as the saddle via Glen River route and back...
-
Gonna bounce up tomorrow probably from bloody bridge, am also going to try find this water pipe up commedagh I've heard about.
Post some pics of the snow
-
You'll find water pipe no baw, just keep on left hand side of wall coming down Commedagh (heading west).
I fear I will get a bottle of Buckfast tonight and not be up to much tomorrow. Was trying to stay off drink til Feb but the wine is calling me.
-
Gonna bounce up tomorrow
love the confidence ;D i wonder if that pipe freezes over, doubt it would be cold enough at the moment
-
Well I say bounce, more a bounce from the car to Brennan's on the way home for a mars bar and ice cream.
Is west when coming down to the saddle on left hand side of wall??
-
Is west when coming down to the saddle on left hand side of wall??
Na, on left hand side of wall on Commedagh's western side. Heading away from Donard, just south of the wall. Approx. grid ref IJ343,285.
Suppose there's a chance it'll be friz but if not should be easy to find.
-
Got ya. We will have a gander tomorrow
-
looks lovely !! was going to head up tomorrow with the pooches but ive been called into work unfortunately .. the joys of working weekends :( where in Dundonald are u claire? im on the comber road myself. Its a Small world
-
Maybe not ;D ;D got someone else to work instead .. so the mournes it is !! if u see a man with frozen snatters coming from his nose like a crying 6 year old and 2 golden retrievers that will be me :D
-
Hoping to go t the Mournes tommorrow as well. Starting from te Rostrevor side and walk up to Slieve Martin...
-
Hay jonny2324 I'm up in hanwood heights, small world indeed......think we will go up from bloody bridge or possibly start at trassy track depends on roads. Defnately going to go up to commedagh and maybe one or two more.
You won't miss me I'm the one being pulled up the hill by my beagle.
-
I'll be up there somewhere with a wee collie dog, not sure where yet ???
-
Had a great day up there, went up one of the snowy gulleys to the don/comm saddle, some waist deep snow in places. Conditions were wild at the saddle so we didn't try and summit Donard. Met jonny2324 on the way down (recognised his dogs then asked him if he was Big Dod :-[ ) then lost my dog and had to run back up to find her (well a wee 100m jog ;D ) finsihed up with a lovely tea and scone in niki's cafe at donard park entrance (highly recommended ;) )
-
We found it mental too, idid keep an eye out for a man with 2 dogs too.....lovely day up there though, met 5/6 people heading up with cameras and tripods must be proper professionals lol!
-
We had a great day n Kilbroney Forest. We were going to venture out towards Slieve Martin but it was to wild. Snow was being blown into my face. Didn't have any goggles.

here's my pics
(http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd496/landyliam/P1250583Small.jpg)
first signs of snow up the glen river path between the 2nd and 3rd bridge
(http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd496/landyliam/P1250589Small.jpg)
looks promising at the ice house
(http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd496/landyliam/P1250608Small.jpg)
molly considers going for a drink
(http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd496/landyliam/P1250629Small.jpg)
testing the ice axes at the bottom of the gulley
(http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd496/landyliam/P1250635Small.jpg)
up the gulley we go
(http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd496/landyliam/P1250654Small.jpg)
quite busy today
(http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd496/landyliam/P1250640Small.jpg)
molly wonders whats keeping us all
(http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd496/landyliam/P1250669Small.jpg)
hitting the deep stuff
(http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd496/landyliam/P1250677Small.jpg)
then the steep stuff
(http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd496/landyliam/P1250674Small.jpg)
some lovely sights up here
(http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd496/landyliam/P1250680Small.jpg)
up and the saddle and we find the wall is nearly covered (drifted on both side so no shelter and the weather was fierce)
as you can see the weather was fierce, the snow felt like pellets being shot at your face
(http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd496/landyliam/P1250689Small.jpg)
so we got the bothy bag out while we had our tea and scones :)
then this was waiting for me when i got home ;D
-

Few pics from Sunday 20th. Up trassey track to the gap, tried to get up to commedagh but it got too much to bare in the wind. Wild day but great.
editted my me to try and show the rest of the pics but something not quite right with the codes :( did get one more of the pics to show :)
-
Great pictures. I'm jealous, them type of trips make you feel so invigorated and alive and you can't beat the satisfaction of getting down to a fire lit dinner and beer.
Where abouts is that gulley by the way?
-
I'm jealous,
i know the feeling, i saw pics on facebook of a few friends up the hills on saturday when i was working and was gutted not to be out with them, sunday made up for it though with this trip (then the saturday hikers wish they had waited a day ;D )
Where abouts is that gulley by the way?
go up the glen river path, but instead of crossing the river to go up the steps to the saddle, bear slightly right (towards commedagh and you'll see the gully) not very obvious normally, but in the snow it really stands out
(http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd496/landyliam/mapofgpsroute3.jpg)
picture added of the gps route to make it a bit more obvious
