So what is everyone promising to do this year? I've been saying every year since 09 that I was finally going to get fit and do the Mountain Marathon. As you may have noticed I'm still flabby and get tired on the stairs ;)
This year though. Definitely!

I think I drunkenly uttered the phrase 3 peaks on New Years eve.
But if not all three of them definitely one of the big ones.

Me and my Brother are going to organise another easter camp this year. Like we did last year. I think my girlfriend will be helping me out on this too.

All within 24 hours!

Donard in an hour
Seven sevens
I heard someone was doing Donard 10x to simulate everest, but even if a magical genie granted me the fitness somehow 10x Donard in one day would bore me, I'd tune out and then trip over something because I was too bored to look.

Running, climbing, paddling and hillwalking..Generally keeping fit.
-
Ooh and being a cougar lol
-
Here's my challenges for this year:
Do at least 6 of the seven sevens! (did 4 in 2011, 5 in 2012)
Mourne Mountain Marathon (maybe class C, depends on my partner)
Run a half marathon, maybe even a full one! (might enter the Mourne Way Half Marathon)
Bivvy some of the seven sevens (2 done so far)
Get up and down Donard in 1hr 30
Do another highest peak in a different region (Caruntoohil, Ben Nevis, or Scafell Pike)
Explore some gulleys in the Mournes (Ben Crom, Cove & others)
Do more outdoor rock climbing.
Do a canoe camp (e.g. salt island)
I could add losing a stone but i don't really care what weight i am as long as i can get up the hills fast :)
editted to add a couple more:
Do a snow camp (even if its in the back garden!)
Get all the Mournes geocaches (currently have about 80% done)
Do a few more orienteering events
Get to the 3rd chamber in Percy Bysshe Cave

We need to organise a trip across the sea then. Get some of the big ones ticked off!

Number one for me has to be losing some serious weight, also on the cards is getting a wild camp each month.Another trip to the Macgillycuddy Reeks is also due before the Spring, thinking the " Big Gun " which is a real challenging scramble.

Speak to me about the Class C of the Mourne Mountian Marathon Liam. Even better let's train like Rocky, do the Class D and look like Heros with our time ;D
No seriously I', looking for a partner for this years MMM so keep me in mind.
As for New Years resolutions I'm going to try another go at getting off the smokes. Did a 2 month stint there until a wedding knocked me off the wagon.
Anyone any tips for quitting smoking?

Awk I know that.. Just need to be flexible elsewhere lol

Generally i want to get fitter and get outdoors more, whether it's camping or just out for a hike. I've started indoor climbing and want to make a good go of it this year, trying to get stronger and learning a better technique than just screaming myself up a route.

Same here Rusty, i've smoked for years but have been trying for a while now to give up, i switched from cigarettes to rolling tobacco and now i've been using one of the electronic eGo cigs for the last few months, haven't smoked any tobacco at all and i actually smoke less now, ie i can take a few quick draws when i need instead of an entire cigarette, it's helping wean me off slowly but surely, worth a go.

I quit years ago, coffee replaced the nicotine as my stimulant of choice. Haven't looked back since
-
I smoked at least 20 -30 a day for 14 years and I'm so glad to now be able to say that I'm off the cigs for two and a half years and dont miss them one bit. Coming off them got me involved in the forum and got me outside enjoying myself. For me I just decided that I wanted to change and went to my doctors where they put me on a course of Champix, I also went once a fortnight for a consultation with the doc to see how I was getting on.
Really guys, give it a darn good go and see how good life can be without them :)
-
I'll give it a whirl definately!

LOL!!!
I agree with RB, go to your GP.
I stopped 13 years ago, using the then new inhaler, chewing gum and patches, all at once (I was a little bit hyper for a few weeks) weaned myself down to using just the chewing gum, which I used for the next 12 years, I tried to get off the gum by using lozenges, now been on them for a year :-[.
Tried getting off the lozenges by going back onto patches, but the only thing they were good for was putting them over my eyes, so I couldnt find the lozenges.
Stick to prescribed substitutes, the over the counter stuff is good, but still highly addictive ::)
Now.. where did i put my tabs ???
-
I'm off them 12 years thanks to Alan Carr's book (not the comedian) I would highly recommend reading it.
-
2 1/2 yrs off thanks to champix
-
I've always been weary off champix, it works for some people but gives others terrible nightmares/tremors/lucid dreams etc. I mean, in my opinion, if you're willing to stop then that's half the battle and one less drug in the system is better than introducing another. I'm determined to stop, gradually reducing my cig intake, as climbing (albeit indoors) is the hardest thing i've undertaken but gives me such gratification and i'm usually too fecked afterwards to even lift a cigarette to my mouth afterwards :D
