Title: Tarpology
Post by: Ed on December 28, 2012
So I have recently bought a Rig7 Tarp from Alpkit and I'm considering rigging configurations.

Does anyone know of any good resources for tarp configurations and general guidelines?

I did find one really excellent little image here:

I have printed it onto A5 and plan to laminate it folded, like Mourneman does with his maps and store it with the tarp.

In my general reading / googling I have found people tend to light fires under them, even in what looks like quite a low height setup. Is that really such a good idea? Sounds like the tarp would just get wrecked with ember holes!

Funny.... I've been experimenting myself with a poncho and some paracord. The theory is the same for the structures. Give u a shout next time I'm off and we'll head to the forest.... practice makes perfect!

I use the ShellTA tarp which doubles as a poncho.

The only limit to tarp constructions is your own imagination! They are one of the most versitile peices of equipment you will own, and considering its just a big waterproof sheet this makes it all the better. I had a stack of photos we did at NISS but can't seem to find it. I think on last count I had something like 24 different tarp constructions that I have slept in with my dd.
