Duh! lol
I went for a trek up Belvoir forest earlier today and found a home-made 'climbing wall' (i use those words loosely) consisting of three doors nailed and tied together with various misshapen bits of wood as hand holds. It had fallen over and was a in a shambolic state, it's no match to Awesome Wall so i call it Dismal Wall, lol.
thats brilliant lol :D
Quote from: TypoOn on November 25, 2012, 10:06:14 AM
Maybe its an extreme underground version of bouldering, that you get splinters in :)
Splintering :D
lol, climbing the trees would be more fun. But you got to love the climbing door ;-)
I suppose I'll just have to go!
If it helps I seen a sign on the train for £10 fare to Dublin, not sure if that and a taxi would be cheaper than driving down.
I guess everyone was going to share lifts?

I could pick you both up from the train in Newry?
I'll not say no to a lift! :) It looks like with the amount of people going we'll have to use two cars, which is great to see.
Unforeseen circumstances mean Im going to have to miss this one :(
Awk no.. :(
That's not so Awseome :(
Put me down :)

Hopefully the weather doesn't cause to much disruption to our plans this weekend. I've been busting a gut for some snow, but now I just want it to stay rain :(
MI got back to me Megan's thing starts at 11am so leaving belfast for 08:30/09:00 will be my plan. Unless the roads are crazy then maybe a bit earlier.
Has anyone been through the toll booths on the way to Dublin? Will they take notes?

Cheers :) only ever took the train for drunken weekends :)
I've no idea if this is true or not but I've heard the toll gates don't give you back change?
Anyone clarify this?
No they don't, unless you go through a manned one.

You will only need to go through one toll in Drogheda. Stick to the the left toll booths.. 2 will take cash 2 are calibrated, the two on the left take cash :)

Chars :)
Found coins to cover the way down and I'll get change at AW for the way home.
I'm thinking a NI-Wild trip wouldn't be complete without a stop at Micky D's so I may call in at Sprucefield for breakfast. I can already taste the double sausage and egg mcmuffin meal :)
Well.. I think its fair to say that Awesome Walls is well named! Fantastic place, cant wait to go back!
(Maybe Typo-on will get to climb next time :-\ )
I thought I'd posted in here, must have got the 'someone has posted while you typed message' and not noticed :(
Awesome walls.... About sums it up :)
I got one boulder problem attempted then had to parent :( but great excuse to return :)
Did anyone take any photos, would love to see them.
Had a great time yesterday. That place is amazing, jealous that there isnt one in Belfast.

Excellent photos, it's like somebody threw a bag of skittles at the wall. :)
Good pics, whoever said it wasnt actually that busy if you took the kids for the YCS out was right. I assume they were all up doing the bouldering segment during the photos
Annd the video.
I was going to post it here instead of my Facebook first, but it automtically posts it for me. So second best will have to do
Any way I can embed vimeo? I know Youtube is the most popular one, is there a similar not to hard to implement feature for vimeo?
http://vimeo.com/oisinpatenall/awesomewalls
**EDIT** Me trying to embed the video, it didnt work.

Thats brilliant :)
I was going to post my video of megan busting some moves on her second route climb but I dont have any video editing software to take my talking out of it :-X ( I didnt even notice you recording on the way down ;D)
Great video, some nice edits there. :)
For those that missed dublin heres what Megan was up to (and another couple of pictures of AW)
http://www.mountaineering.ie/news/viewdetails.asp?ID=763 (http://www.mountaineering.ie/news/viewdetails.asp?ID=763)
The second picture has her second boulder problem the green route starts in the bottom right of the picture then traverses left and they had to bridge on the yellow face and its opposite (that you cant see) and reach a hold at the top out of scene.
The third picture is the third bouldering problem. Green again starting with two hands on the big green under the young fella and a foot on the mini green at the bottom going up and to the right. Finishing at the big to green.
This route was the hardest boudlering route these two age categories completed so as(I assume) to get a 'winner'. Only a couple managed to make it across to the right and only one completed.
Great write up :) and Megan's result was amazing!!
Need to get back down soon... anyone?

I have really big hands :o
So guys when is the next trip down to Dublin?
There is a University climbing competition on at Awesome Walls 1-3 March, I was considering getting the train down on the Sunday(3rd) to compete in the Top-Rope category, I don't fancy the fuss of getting the Saturday booked off work just for the bouldering. Would anyone fancy going down on the same day?
What does that date sound like to everyone? I'll be happy to head down on another date as well :)
