As far as I know, the first number is the size of the bag, the second is the size with the added on pockets? As in its 80 litres but can be expanded to 130? Or is 60 litres and can be expanded to 100?

There's a zip on the side that when you unzip it opens the bag out to give the extra 40 litres, it's the same system for the larger size. I think the side pockets are optional and you pay extra for them:

I have a Karrimor Sabre.... It's a pretty bombproof rucksack. The side pockets are detachable and it also has a yoke system so the side pockets can be worn like a kind of belt-kit / army style webbing system.

It takes some amount of abuse and is as rugged as they come. It's a heavy rucksack tho and seems to fill up very easily. I think it's due to the design: wide at the bottom and narrow at the top. Despite this I'd buy the sabre again in a heartbeat. It's a good all rounder.

Good support/padding. Straps give good support. Some smaller pockets so organising kit is quite easy.

I have been reading more reveiws on the saber, i've found good reviews alway. I ove the look of the saber and the fack that it is bomb prove. What size of one do you have Rusty and does it take tent, sleeping bag, bivey, food, axe, knife, food ETC........

Also where did you get it and how much did it cost ?

Cheers Rusty

I have the Karrimor Sabre 45. I find it's got more than enough space for an extended overnighter, and that's without the side pockets.

Has a big zip pocket in the top of the rucksack on the outside. Inside I can fit a pair of waterproof trousers and a mac in a pac.

Inside it's got a space to fit a water bladder which is quite handy. Tactical packing and making use of the space is key with it though. If you fire everything in it'll fill up quickly. On the Mourne Mountain Marathon though I packed the following in no problems:

1 Karrimor 2man x-lite tent (weighs maybe 3kg)
Sleeping Bag (Tesco one that packs away...surprisingly good for the money)
Waterproofs
Emergency Bivi Bag
Hexi Stove, Fuel and Food (A fair bit of food: biscuits, pasta, sweets etc)
Bufallo Jacket
Gaiters
Spare Socks
Water bladder with 2 litres of water
3 bottles of Lucozade
First Aid Kit
Headtorch
Hat, Gloves, Buff

When you open up the rucksac there's a mesh pocket in the top of it that's pretty good for storing a map/compass and is easy access.

The zip system means it converts easily into a smaller day rucksack that's maybe got about a 15 litre capacity. Nice enough if you're only going for a day dander and don't want everything rattling around.

There's some good webbing on the front so MOLLE accessories or first aid kits, mini pockets etc can be added no problem

Fortunately I blagged mine for free  ::) but I think they retail about £130. There's a few links. If you go for any of the Sports Direct ones give me a shout as I've a 10% Discount Code

Importantly try one on before you buy though. I'll have mine out at the Crimbo camp and I'll let you get a feel for it. The feel of the Rucksack is low and wide meaning much of the weight settles at the bottom of it.

All in all though it's a pretty decent rucksack. Anyone I know has one had it with no problems until they got a little bored with it and decided to try another. Most still have their original

Thanks lads, i've always wanted a saber, its pretty amazing that a 45 saber takes all that. I was thinking of getting 60-100 or  80-130, but sounds like i would have to be doing cape warth or something big. It may be a waste getting one of the bigger sacks if the 45 holds all that.

Great info BTW, im going to start saving now ;-)

I took a 44L on the TGO Challenge (Osprey talon 44) and its what I would take if doing the Cape Wrath trail. I had everything for two weeks wild camping in the highlands in it np. The bigger the pack the more crap you'll carry

What would you take in a 44L for doing cape wrath for example ?

Tent
Bivey
sleeping bag
survival kit
medical kit
para cord
axe
head torch
roll mat
water & food
map & compass

all i can think of ;-/

What lite pack would you take for an over nighter mate ?

I have a Osprey Kestrel 58. Osprey do make some great packs (I am sure others would agree). But if you want to go down the milatry route why not go gown to a surplus store and get one for half the price.

But seriously tell us what you want the pack for and let people give you there thoughts (I swear by Osprey)

I would always take.........

bivey
roll mat
pocket rocket
survival stuff
spare clothes
